When it comes to large OEMs, may understand that it can be quite expensive to house their molds. So, for these large mold transfers, it requires a lot of planning, communication, and project expectations.
Mold Transfer Steps
To gain a good understanding of what happens when a mold/tool transfer happens, here are six steps that are very important when processing a mold/tool transfer.
Step #1: Contractual Agreement
A contractual agreement between both the OEM and the injector molder company. This should establish a legal commitment that protects the interest of both parties when it comes to the mold transfer.
Step #2: On-site Assessment
This is a really important step because it gives the OEM a chance to do an on-site assessment of the plastic mold injectable company to help better understand the transfer process. The molder who will be taking the transfer will need to thoroughly spell out the exact functions from the transfer order to shipment.
Step #3: Schedule
Now, it is time to schedule the transfer. In order for this process to be a success, it will require a joint effort between the two companies. During the scheduling of the tool transfer, there should be a specified date as well as all parts, molds, and other equipment that will be received.
Step #4: Safety Stock
The correct amount of stock needed should have been determined during step 2. However, during this step, the amount of stock needed to transfer the tool to the facility should be confirmed.
Step #5: Validation
This step involves validating each part that is to be produced by the new molder. This also includes producing the new samples for verification and approval from the OEM.
Step #6: Production Molding
After approval, it’s time to start production of the molds as explained in the contractual agreement from step 1.
